ABC Mint, a Pallion company, has launched the Southern Cross coin collection, an exquisite series honouring the celestial splendour of Australia’s night sky.
Conceptualised by Ross MacDiarmid AO, former CEO of the Royal Australian Mint, the collection is united by the Southern Cross constellation – a guiding light and enduring national symbol – and the country’s most iconic wildlife duo, the kangaroo and emu.
Crafted from fine ABC Bullion Australian silver and gold, the multi-coin collection embodies the precision, artistry and minting expertise for which ABC Mint is renowned. The collection launches with the 1oz gold coin, available now, with additional formats to follow in the coming months – including 2oz, 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 120oz gold as well as 1 troy ounce silver. Designed for both investors and collectors, the coins are part of an open, unlimited edition ensuring ongoing accessibility. Pricing is based on the market value of the metal plus a modest premium.
Illustrated by renowned coin designer Tony Dean, the reverse side of each coin depicts the Southern Cross constellation in a striking arrangement, set against a detailed expression of the outback that enhances its celestial presence. Beneath the stars, a finely rendered kangaroo and emu stand in silhouette, reinforcing the coin’s distinctly Australian identity. All coins have legal tender status with face values from NZD $2 to $500.
The obverse side carries the effigy of King Charles III sourced from the New Zealand territory of Niue. This connection further emphasises the series’ strong ties to Oceania, with the effigy usage receiving approval from relevant authorities including those in New Zealand and Buckingham Palace, underscoring its global significance.
